On the evening of April 11, 2024, New York City's Hall des Lumiéres played host to an inspiring assembly of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) leaders at the 7th Advancing Diversity Hall of Honors. The event, attended by over 400 professionals from the advertising and media community, was a testament to the unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive industry.

The induction ceremony featured comments by Alia Jones-Harvey (pictured above with Jack Myers) , New York City Associate Commissioner, Workforce Development & Educational Initiatives, presenting a Citation to MediaVillage Foundation on behalf of Mayor Eric Adams.  Reading from the Citation, Jones-Harvey commented, "Today's event, Advancing Diversity Hall of Honors, highlights the many achievements of standout professionals in the field of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) who have led the way. This celebration emphasizes the significance of these values, not just in business, but throughout every facet of life in our city. My Administration is committed to shining a spotlight on those deserving individuals who have been overlooked for far too long, and we are grateful for allies such as MediaVillage, for their dedication to reenergizing our media landscape and illuminating the way forward."

Marla Kaplowitz, President and CEO of the 4A's, continued the ceremony with an energizing welcome. She celebrated the achievements of those honored, highlighting their role as a beacon of hope and a call to action for the industry. "Your achievements serve as the foundation for a future where every voice is truly heard and every perspective is valued," Kaplowitz stated, emphasizing the importance of continuing to champion diversity and inclusion to ensure the industry reflects the world's diversity.

Following Kaplowitz, Jack Myers, media ecologist and chairman of the Advancing Diversity Hall of Honors, addressed the crowd, expressing his admiration for the inductees and gratitude toward the community's contributions. "Look around; the faces you see are the architects of our future," Myers remarked, underscoring the multi-generational audience, the transformative impact of the honorees, and the collective dedication to enhancing DEIB within the industry. He also extended his appreciation to the event's more than 50 sponsors, highlighting their crucial support in advancing these essential initiatives.

The ceremony concluded with remarks from Dr. Gracie Lawson-Borders, Dean of the Cathy Hughes School of Communications at Howard University. Dr. Lawson-Borders reflected on the significance of the evening and the enchanting venue which amplified the creative and artistic expressions of the community. "It is uplifting and motivating," she noted, appreciating the collective efforts of all partners and supporters in pushing forward the DEIB agenda. Her words served not only as a thank you but as a reminder of the ongoing commitment required to maintain momentum in this critical work.

The Advancing Diversity Hall of Honors was not just an event but a vibrant celebration of the strides being made toward a more inclusive industry. As the lights dimmed on the evening, the energy and resolve of the community shone brightly, promising continued dedication to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. The message was clear: together, there is no retreat, only an ever-increasing commitment to forge ahead.
